Help us find the Vitascope Theater

We know what building it was in:

The Ellicott Square Building.

We know about the seating:

It had 72 seats and one aisle down the center.

We know about the screen:

At one end was a small stage and screen.

We know what color it was:

It was white with decorations and a velvet carpet.

But we don't know if it was in the basement? on the first floor? on the second floor?

Do YOU have information? Scrapbooks? Clippings? Family diaries? Are you 120 years old and did you go there?

Please get in touch with us!  BuffaloFilmFestival AT gmail.Com
Edisonia Hall - 1896 - 295 Ellicott Square Building
Edisonia Hall - 1896 - 295 Ellicott Square Building
Through Edisonia Hall, the eager public reached the VITASCOPE THEATER.

This was one of the first permanent movie theaters in the world, and may have been the very first theater constructed from scratch exclusively for showing motion pictures. The earlier "theater" in New Orleans modified a vacant store, but Buffalo's Vitascope Hall was elegantly designed and built by Mitchell Mark only for movies!
