The Buffalo International Film Festival was conceived in 2003, announced in 2004 and formally founded in 2005 in Buffalo, New York, United States.
The Buffalo International Film Festival is a not for profit corporation in New York State. It is established as a public charity and depends upon contributions from the public at large, foundations, government grants and other beneficiaries. 501(c)(3) status is established as of January 2006. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.
The not-for-profit MISSION of The Buffalo International Film Festival includes:
1) Highlight the past and
present work of individuals who are/were born, raised, educated, or in
the Western New York Region and who have contributed in one or another
way to world motion picture history.
2) The festival is particularly
interested in highlighting the work of lesser known individuals or
diverse cultural, ethnic, and educational origins and their impact upon
the International Community.
3) Encouraging international cooperation and communication through the sharing and screening of international film and video
4) Creating a Major Cultural Tourism Attraction in Greater Buffalo and the 8 counties of Western New York by putting on and promoting important Motion Picture Events that will bring tourists to the region annually and at other times.
5) Working cooperatively with both commercial and not-for-profit interests for mutual benefit.
6) Operating related not-for-profit activities such as The Buffalo Film Society, The Niagara Falls Film Society, The Buffalo/Niagara Film Society, The New York Movie Theater Corridor, The Movie Theater Trail, The Greater Buffalo Movie Hall of Fame and Walk of Fame, among others for the benefit of the community, state, and nation.
Informally, we often refer to The Buffalo International Film Festival as B.I.F.F. or BIFF or The Buffalo Film Festival
The founder is Edward Summer who was born in Buffalo, and lived in Kenmore, New York
The names Buffalo International Film Fesitval and Buffalo Film Festival are protected and may not be used without permission.
