The Buffalo International Film Festival was conceived in 2003, announced in 2004 and formally founded in 2005 in Buffalo, New York, United States. The founder is Edward Summer who was born in Buffalo, and lived in Kenmore, New York
The Buffalo International Film Festival is a not for profit corporation in New York State. It is established as a public charity and depends upon contributions from the public at large, foundations, government grants and other beneficiaries. 501(c)(3) status is established as of January 2006. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.
The Buffalo International Film Festival will highlight the past and present work of individuals who are/were born, raised, educated, or in the Western New York Region and who have contributed in one or another way to world motion picture history.
The festival is particularly interested in highlighting the work of lesser known individuals or diverse cultural, ethnic, and educational origins and their impact upon the International Community.
Informally, we often refer to The Buffalo International Film Festival as B.I.F.F. or BIFF or The Buffalo Film Festival
