Buffalo Film Festival donates Movie Tickets to Greater Buffalo Charities.
Buffalo, New York The Buffalo International Film
Festival, Inc. (BIFF) a 501c3 not-for-profit, has a policy of donating
free tickets to many of their screenings for Greater Buffalo Charities
and not-for-profit organizations.
"Community cooperation is the foundation of a healthy society," says
Edward Summer, President of The Buffalo Film Festival. "Our
organization was formed to encourage the cooperation of international
communities through the exchange of motion pictures, videos and other
modern media. Through this cooperation, people's cultural horizons are
widened regardless of their local location."
Working with The Historic Riviera Theatre of Western New York, the
Buffalo Film Festival and The Buffalo Film Society (an activity of
BIFF) is co-presenting a nine film summer series entitled "Hollywood
'39." As every film buff knows, 1939 is often considered Hollywood's
greatest year. That year, Hollywood gave the world The Wizard of OZ,
Gone with the Wind, Stagecoach, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Son of
Frankenstein, Dark Victory and dozens of other all-time classics.
"We are making up to 10 free tickets available to each and every
charity and not-for-profit organization in Greater Buffalo and Western
New York for each of the nine films in the series (The Wizard of
OZ, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, The Man They Could Not Hang, The
Little Princess, Goodbye Mr. Chips, Babes in Arms, Destry Rides Again,
Dark Victory and Gone With The Wind). These are classic,
family films," says Summer. "The organizations may use the tickets as
they see fit: to reward volunteers or to sell for fund-raising
purposes. It is impossible to financially support all these fine
organizations one at a time, and this is a wonderful way to show them
how much we, as a member of the Greater Buffalo Community, appreciate
their work." At the recent Harold Lloyd Film Restrospective (also
co-sponsored with The Historic Riviera Theatre), nearly 2000 tickets
were given to Buffalo charities at no charge.
BIFF plans a new film series beginning in the Fall entitled "Buffalo
Film Society presents: Mid-Week Movies." It will include extraordinary
American Independent Films, documentaries, Foreign Language Films, and
Silent Comedies with live Organ accompaniment on the one-of-a-kind
Historic Riviera Theatre Wurlitzer organ.
Among BIFF's other activities are: The Buffalo Film Festival, The
Buffalo Film Society, The New York State Movie Theater Corridor, The
Digital Nitrate Prize, The Carbon-Arc Projector Fund, The Single Screen
Movie Theater Project, The Buffalo Walk of Fame.
The advisory board of BIFF includes members of the international
Motion Picture and Television industries, as well as best-selling
authors, award-winning scientists, and members of the Western New York
community.
Buffalo International Film Festival, Inc. was founded in 2005 as a
501c3 not-for-profit charity. It is supported by tax-deductible
donations.
