February 26, 2008 Montclair, N.J. / Buffalo, New York
Michael Uslan, producer of the upcoming
Batman: Dark Knight (2008), Will Eisner's The Spirit (2009), Batman:
The Movie, and The Swamp Thing was interviewed at Monclair State
College by Edward Summer, producer of Conan the Barbarian and Director
of The Buffalo International Film Festival for a gathered group of more
than 100 students, faculty and townspeople.
Many years before both Summer and Uslan had
worked for DC Comics and also for The Monster Times, a famous 1970s
publication, so this was a reunion.
Uslan explained how a small town kid from New
Jersey made it to the top of Hollywood by sheer persistance and
hard-work. It took more than 10 years to get the first Batman motion
picture into production!
Will Eisner's The Spirit is in post-production
for January 2009 released. Directed by Frank Miller, the film was
planned with the cooperation of the late Will Eisner one of the great
geniuses of comic art.
The Spirit was a special Sunday newspaper
supplement called a "Spirit Section." The majority of these were
printed in Buffalo, New York and distributed nationally during the
1940s.
Summer and Uslan discussed future activities
that will involve the Buffalo International Film Festival and Buffalo
Film Society in 2009.
Buffalo International Film Festival is a 501c3
not-for-profit charity that depends upon public support. Contributions
are encouraged. Please join the new Buffalo Film Society. Information
